Bailey's Birthday

My "aunt" Daphne came to visit us in North Carolina all the way from my home state of Louisiana and brought sweet little Bailey along. She took her first plane ride just to see us :)
I took her out the day before they left a spent a few minutes getting some shots of her for her big 11th birthday.
It was a blast.
Even though it was freezing and it smelled funny outside.. ;)

This little angel was seeing her daddy for the first time after his deployment. I loved the experience of being there at the homecoming :)

Definition- appreciative.
Synonyms- gratified, thankful, pleased, indebted, gratified, satisfied, overwhelmed.. content.

All of those words perfectly describe how I feel. Blessed would not even begin to cover it.
After the biggest transition of my life in 2010, moving my business to a new state, dedicating nearly a year of my life to the dog-eat-dog corporate world and realizing that nothing else satisfies me quite like my photography, 2011 was a banner year for me.
I learned more about my photography (and photography in general) in 2011 than I have in 6 years of being in business.

-I learned that my photography style may not be everyone's cup of tea. And that I am okay with that notion.
-I learned to say "no" when a client is just not looking for what I offer.
-I learned to stand up for the photos that I love to capture, and not to just sell out to a gimmick because it's what is "selling".
-I learned about the harsh competitive under belly of small business. I had been unbelievably blessed to have a base of photographer friends in Little Rock. People who had been where I was and encouraged me, and even those starting out wanting to help each other learn.
-I learned that off camera flash is a good friend in dark times. (pun totally intended)
-I even learned what I am willing to sacrifice to make my passion a reality.

I've worked harder for this dream than any other. And if you know me even a tiny bit, you know that my dreams are large and in charge. Of all the blessings in my life, I appreciate this one in a completely different way. God didn't have to give me this. I have been lucky enough to have a sharp mind and can pick up just about anything and master it. I can work in a number of different arenas and earn a living. I've also been blessed with a family who supports anything I endeavor to do. So God knew I didn't necessarily need this to pan out. But He loved me enough to give me this gift. Just because it makes me happy. And for me, that's both comforting and exciting.

I've been blessed (there's that word again) with the greatest family and friends a girl could ask for. Supportive does not even cover what those guys are. Without them to encourage me or show me when I'm wrong, I don't think I would have made it as far as I have.

More than anything, I am grateful for my clients in 2011. Without you guys, none of this would have happened! I appreciate you all allowing me to photograph your precious moments and to capture your lives in my own way. In 2012, my only resolution is to make myself better for you. Lifestyle photography is what I do. Putting your moments in focus is my passion. Delivering the best possible art photographs is my job and my commitment to you.

Alright. Enough sap.
Let's go, 2012!
Keep making memories, and don't forget to invite me along for the ride.
I promise you won't be disappointed :)

Welcome Home

Today I had the privilege to be at green ramp for the return of some of our military men and women. I was planning to wait a few days before posting these, with all of the hustle and bustle of the season. I still have gifts to buy, wrap and mail.
But I couldn't pull myself away from these photos.
They are so beautiful.
The emotion is so strong and the tears of joy kept drawing me in.

I wasn't going there to see my dad, brother, son or husband.
My motives were purely business. Until I walked in and felt the anticipation in the air. I heard the songs being played. I waited impatiently while the plane landed. I said the pledge and prayer with tears in my eyes and when the soldiers were released to find their loved ones I couldn't hold my emotions in any longer.
It was water works for me.

Let's all slow down and remember those who aren't coming home this Christmas
and say a prayer for their safety.

How fun is this family? I adore them! Cortt and Amanda are some of the most kind-hearted people I have met and they have 3 of the prettiest kids in the world. So when they asked me to do their family photos, I couldn't wait :)

Little Isaac is so precious! I could squeeze him all day. And Courtney and Sydney are not only gorgeous little girls, but they are sweet and sassy all at the same time.

I love these people.

There, I said it! I appreciate them so much and respect them. Brocc and Randi are a young couple with 3 young kiddos and a big job: Pastor (& pastor's family). It's a heavy responsibility, but they handle the position with grace and a calm, peaceful ease that makes it a delight to be a part of their church family :)

And what can I say about Elijah, Logan and miss Juliana? I've taught all three of them in Sunday School and there aren't many kids out there as funny as these three. Every time I look at Juiliana she's got the biggest smile full of dimples and she's usually trying to hide from me and escape the tickle monster.

I had the pleasure of going out to a beautiful, old abandoned house with these three little beauties and taking their pictures a few days ago. They are all three so full of live and full of gorgeous smiles! They are as fearless as they are pretty and I had the best time photographing them. Their mom is expecting another baby after the first of the year, making them a family of 7; two boys and three girls for mom and dad!
They are all so excited for their new baby brother and I'm excited for them :)

Boy, I sure do have an awful lot of personal posts lately. Oh well. I got my 85mm lens in the mail this week and Saturday I finally had an entire day to play with it! eeek! I'm pretty much in love and don't see it coming off of my camera for a while :) I spent some time with my guy, driving around to some small town, back roads kind of places (my favorite) and found some of the most awesome things. I even found some new props for my upcoming shoots!
I spent my childhood growing up in a small Louisiana town and those are the scenes I miss. Nothing makes me happier than spending a day exploring, finding familiar spots in a new place. With some music, windows down and my camera by my side :)

-the next 4 photos are SOOC. and i'm loving them :)

Stinky Pete went to Legofest 2011 (he's hardcore) and couldn't stop talking about it this weekend :)

I recently did a product shoot for a new, local accessories designer. I actually enjoyed it, even though no humans were involved. The hair bows and pendants are all hand made and since the shoot, the owner is actually expanding to some clothing as well. I'm excited to work with her more in the future.. and maybe incorporate some living models :)

After a short hiatus, I'm back on the blog.
Did you really think I could stay away?
I've been putting a lot into our (fairly new) Facebook page and it is paying off. Tons of new friends and some great new things happening for Alo Imagery. Check out the FB and Like us :) Also, check out our Pricing! We've added new sessions and we're now doing Short & Sweet sessions!

I adore natural light. It's what I started with, it's what I'll always be. But I recently got a studio setup and sometime this fall we'll be diving into some studio work. Nothing posed and commercial photography chain-ish. I would die before that happened (blech!) but I'm going to be pairing my outdoor photos with a few indoor shots for good measure. I think it's a good direction for us to head in after 5 years of doing this.

On that note, after 5 years of doing this, I've finally run into the harsh competitive side of this business. Before, most of the local photographers and I were friends. We took pictures of each other, took pictures together. It was good time. And now, people are slandering and sneaking around to steal customers. It's seriously a mess. So here I am, doing what I love wishing everyone else good luck. As long as someone wants a creative, laid back experience I'll be here :)

Jillane married Raul in May. And now we're doing bridals! Confused?
I think it's a much better idea to do bridal portraits post-wedding. You are more calm, you aren't as worried about your dress getting wrinkled or stained. You've done the wedding thing so now you have that newlywed glow and everything is rainbows and butterflies.
Call it a Deconstructed Bridal session.

Some of you might recognize our bride. Not only was she a bridesmaid in a previous wedding we shot, but she's also a TWIN to Amanda! So it was great to be in familiar company again.
This time around, Amber and Dennis were getting hitched. Same church, some of the same guests, but a love all their own. Dennis was so nervous, it was melting my heart. His adoration for Amber was really something and she was so excited to become Mrs. Carter. It was just wonderful.
It was also great seeing Cliff and Amanda again. Married life is treating them well :)

I love this post.

Karson was such a good baby. He was snoozing the whole time, but he was oh so wonderfully sweet.
I love his pink baby skin and the way he made himself comfortable whether he was in a bucket or on the grass.
Karson's mom, Lindsey is totally sweet and she is a twin to Lauren and Lauren is step-mom to Colin and Connor. So Karson had an entire entourage for his session.

Where do I start? I love these kids! I did their Easter pictures last year and I was so excited when their mom, Tabitha won our Spring Session contest. They have adorable cheeks and deep eyes. "Precious Moments" babies, as Tabitha puts it. And I have to agree. This was such a fun session for me. They both have grown up so much since last year. Micayla is a perfect little girly girl and I loved hearing Blake's new found voice. He's grown into quite the little chatterbox. When I would tell him to smile at me, he would say "Whaaat??". So cute.

Super excited about this pictures! The Nelson's were one of the winners of our Spring Photo Contest and new friends, as well. Trent, Heather, Katelyn and Ty met me downtown for a quick session. I learned quickly that the secret to getting a real smile from Ty was to tell him not to smile at all :)

I met this guy through a friend, a wonderful friend, and it was a very short notice arrangement.
I was scrambling around for 2 days trying to come up with some really neat ideas for a rapper.

I love this session!! I had so much fun with Ashley, Trevor and Dylan at the Koenig Family farm. I met Ashley and a much smaller baby Dylan one day at a portrait studio I use to work at and I've taken photos for them 3 times now. When Ashley contacted me about Easter pictures, I was more than excited :)
Trevor's family has one of the most gorgeous farms I've ever seen with beautiful trees, horses and even peacocks. I was in heaven. This family is adorable and so fun and these pictures are definitely a showcase of that. It's just a preview, but enjoy ;)

I couldn't sleep until I had posted some more of these. This session was wonderful for me. I had a blast, and after working over 40 hours a week in a less than satisfying, and creativity stifling environment, Nick and Andrea's photo session helped balance me out. Really, it helped me remember what I should have known all along: I'm not me when I shut out my imagination.

I had an absolute blast taking this pictures. I met Andrea when we were roommates in Charlotte for job training and have loved being around her ever since. There are so many things I could say about her, but suffice it say that she is witty and hilariously wonderful. But this isn't just Andrea's post! Nick was there too :) and he just amplified the laughs we had that day. The two of them are so funny and perfect for each other, you can't help but be happy when you spend the day with them.

With all of the craziness in my world, it was nice to spend an entire day in my little brother, Noah's world. We played wii, tag, we sprayed each other with the water hose and then we dried off by swinging on the swing set. We had a contest to see who could swing the highest and who could jump further. (Further.. that's a funny word. Say it five or six times!) He is the funniest little kid I know. And one of the smartest, too. He's got a cute little lopsided grin and he raises his eyebrows when he is thinking about something. And he randomly runs up to me and gives me huge bear hugs and says "I love you, Laurnin!"

After weeks of trying to find the right font, the perfect color and placement and something that just looked like me, I'm pretty sure this is it :) I'm pumped about the coming weeks and months. I'm working on a Foto Fair coming this Spring, so Fayetteville, (and the surrounding areas!) keep checking back for details.

As much as I miss Little Rock, I'm loving my time with him. He's the coolest kid I know :)

When you book a session with Alo Imagery, there is a $10 deposit required upfront to guarantee your time slot. Each full length session will include 1-2 hours of time and 2 outfit changes, unless otherwise specified. All sessions include a Social Media CD of edited photos as well as the option to purchase original files. You will also receive (1) 8x10 and (5) 4x6 album prints which can be ordered after proofing your photos in an online gallery. You may also request a printed proof sheet for future ordering purposes. Active duty military receive a 15% discount on our session fees and returning customers will receive a $10 discount :)

Sessions

Families, kids, seniors, brides, boudoir, couples, maternity, newborn and even hospital photos when the itty bitty new ones arrive. Our portrait sessions cover all of those :) On location or in-home, you get up to two hours of photography and two location choices. The fee is $115.

Short & Sweet Sessions

These mini sessions last for 30 minutes and come with a social media cd of 8-10 edited photos.

The Short & Sweet is not for large family photos, babies or small toddlers. They are for one outfit in one location.

These sessions are $50.

-Military homecoming photo sessions are something we love! Since the arrival times change, often at the last minute we are willing to be flexible with our schedule around the time you are expecting your loved one home. There is an $85 fee for these sessions and you will receive a disc of your images within 2 weeks.

Collections

Collections are larger/2 part sessions and small events. They require a face-to-face consultation. Web chats are available for long distance clients. Each collection comes with an 11x14 art print as well as a Social Media CD.

Weddings

Before a wedding is booked, a face-to-face consultation is required. There is a non-refundable 15% deposit required to book a date. The pricing starts at $800. Email Lauren for a price quote. If the event is more than 25 miles outside of Hoke county, there is a travel charge added into your quote. Each wedding packages includes a disc of original images and an 11x14 standout of your favorite photo.

Our regular printing options include album prints (4x6) and framing prints (5x7 to 16x20). These prices range from $5-$45.

Special printing includes smaller sizes (3.5x5 or 5x5) and wall sizes (16x20 mounted and large standouts/gallery wraps).

These prices range from $5-300.
